Job Description:
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Drivetrain / Suspension (2 positions)
Position Responsibilities
Designs new products and makes improvements to existing products. May
evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability
and ensure project completion. May oversee the work of other engineers.
Works with other members of the staff to ensure that production is
completed in a timely manner. Familiar with a variety of the field's
concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and
judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide
degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a
manager or head of a unit/department.
Position Requirements
4 year engineering degree
Minimum of 10 years continuous engineering employment experience,
preferably with 7 or more years experience with the following in a heavy
truck or off-highway equipment environment:
Demonstrated understanding of heavy vehicle dynamics
Demonstrated competence in the design and validation of suspensions,
components, and installations
Experience in driveline layout and design, and familiarity with attendant
NVH issues
Demonstrated competence in steering system layout, design, and validation
Braking system design, installation, and validation
Knowledge and experience with BoM generation & structure, and use of
electronic MRP/ERP systems
Demonstrated strong 3D CAD skills (modellling, drawing creation, assembly
management) and a minimum of 5 years experience with a 3D solid modeling
package and attendant PDM system (Solidworks, ProE, Catia, Inventor,
IDEAS, etc). Direct Solidworks experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage medium-sized engineering projects & project
teams, from customer request though implementation and infant care.
Demonstrated problem solving skills
Self-starter requiring minimum supervision/direction.
Ability & willingness to communicate/interact in positive fashion with
other departments & personnel, from the mfg floor to the CEO
Sound understanding of the manufacturing environment and demonstrate a
hands-on approach when required.
Must be able to handle a fast paced design and manufacturing environment
in a start-up company, and be prepared to contribute and mentor on system
and process design and implementation
Will be required to work as part of a team, and lead on projects of
varying degrees of complexity
Systems and creative thinking, demonstrated leadership, self initiation
required. Strong communicator across all levels of the organization.
Teaching skills. Strong people skills. Responsibly utilize corporate
assets including people and resources. Team building capabilities.
